How to apply

The Course

This programme is designed to provide you with the professional skills to plan, deliver, evaluate and improve activities and initiatives aimed at improving people’s fitness and health-related lifestyles.

Cheshire College South & West is a unique place to study and this programme will give you  unrivalled access to vocational opportunities in the Fitness and Health industry. There is a smaller and more intimate environment that allows you to develop personally and vocationally, and our highly experienced staff will support you in following a career route in your chosen field.

You will have the background knowledge and skills to potentially achieve career progression in the fitness, leisure and health sectors. Job roles in advanced fitness instruction, personal training, exercise referral and physical activity promotion are typical of the careers students will be in a position to develop. Based on module choices, some students will have developed sports-related or management knowledge and skills that will open further career routes. Typical modules can include:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Fitness and Health Assessment
  • Learning at Work (Work Placement)
  • Psychology
  • Communication and Counselling Skills

We welcome an application profile that meets one of the following:

  • A BTEC Level 3 qualification in sport
  • A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
  • Related work experience as determined at interview with the Course Team Leader
  • An international equivalent of the above

and:

  • GCSE grades A* to C ( 9 to 4) in maths and English

Some work placements will require a DBS check.

On successful completion of the programme you could progress to the Level 5 HND Sport course at the College. Additionally, you will have the background knowledge and skills to potentially achieve career progression in the fitness, leisure and health sectors. Job roles in advanced fitness instruction, personal training, exercise referral, strength & conditioning and physical activity promotion are typical of the careers graduates will be in a position to develop. You could also progress on to further study at a higher level in a related discipline.

Adults can enrol for FREE

You may see a fee attached to the course you’re interested in, but if you’re aged 19+ you’ll more than likely be eligible to enrol onto an adult course for FREE.
