CCSW operates a flexible admissions policy, welcoming applicants with a wide range of qualifications and/or experience, with each application assessed on its own merit. We also recognise prior learning/attainment (RPL) and experience, meaning it may be possible to map some of your existing qualifications against the modules for the HNC/D Engineering.
If this applies to you, we will discuss this with you at the interview stage.

For learners who have recently been in education, we would expect an applicant to have one of the following:

  • A BTEC Level 3 qualification in engineering or a related subject
  • A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications (such as A Levels)
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
  • Related work experience as determined at interview with the Course Team Leader
  • An international equivalent of the above

and

  • GCSE grades A* to C ( 9 to 4) in maths and English

International students
If you are a non-EU/EEA/Swiss national, you may need to apply for a Tier 4 visa in order to enter and study in the UK. However, please note that CCSW holds a Tier 4 Sponsor Licence to support student visa applications.

Many universities now allow advanced entry onto the corresponding second year of a degree. Some universities have direct articulations on to the second year of a bachelor’s degree programme, i.e., the HNC is equivalent to the first year of university. Learners should be aware that university admission criteria are always subject to change and understand the course entry requirements for subject, year, and grade before applying). After completion of the course, students can progress to the Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Engineering, equivalent to the second year of university. After completing a BTEC Higher National Certificate or Diploma, students can also progress directly into employment.

Do you already have a HNC? Then please contact us to discuss the possibility of direct entry to the HND top-up programme.
