How to apply

The Course

The course aimed at learners wanting to continue their education through applied learning. It provides a wide-ranging study of the engineering sector and is designed for learners who wish to pursue a career in engineering. In addition to the skills, knowledge and techniques that underpin the study of the sector, the course gives you an experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare you for employment, progression within employment or further study. Mandatory units include: -Mechanical Principles -Electrical and Electronic Principles -Engineering Design -Engineering Maths -Engineering Science -Managing a Professional Engineering Project -Electrical and Electronic Principles Plus optional units from the following: -Production Engineering for Manufacture -Mechanical Principles -Quality and Process Improvement

For students who have recently been in education, the entry profile is likely to include one of the following: • A* to C grade and/or 9 to 4 in GCSE Maths (or equivalent) is strongly recommended plus • A BTEC Level 3 qualification in Engineering or • A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) or • Other related Level 3 qualifications or • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution or • Related work experience or • An international equivalent of the above The programme is taught and assessed in English, for applicants who are non-native English speakers and who have not undertaken their final two years of schooling in English, please note that applicants are expected to demonstrate capability in English at a standard equivalent to the levels identified below: • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2 • PTE 51 • IELTS 5.5; Reading and Writing must be at 5.5 • or equivalent

Many universities now allow advanced entry onto the corresponding second year of a degree. Some universities have direct articulations on to the second year of a bachelor’s degree programme, i.e., the HNC is equivalent to the first year of university. (Students should be aware that university admission criteria are always subject to change and understand the course entry requirements for subject, year, and grade before applying). After completion of the course, students can progress to the Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Engineering, equivalent to the second year of university. After completing a Higher National Certificate or Diploma, students can also progress directly into employment.

Adults can enrol for FREE

You may see a fee attached to the course you’re interested in, but if you’re aged 19+ you’ll more than likely be eligible to enrol onto an adult course for FREE.
