How to apply

The Course

This course will allow you to develop a range of specialist technical skills, enabling you to meet the demands of employers in the computing sector and to adapt to a constantly changing world. The programme will cover a broad range of computing topics that may be encountered in modern business. You will benefit from our excellent cutting-edge computing facilities, small tuition groups and extremely supportive, industry-experienced teaching staff. By completing this course you will achieve an industry-recognised HND, which will enhance your career prospects and your employability. During the course you may also have the opportunity to gain additional professional IT qualifications with further study.

The course will cover a broad-based overview of computing, which will allow you to develop wide-ranging skills and knowledge. You will gain academic, technical and professional training, leading to the skills necessary to design, implement, support, evaluate or manage IT systems in a vast range of industries, with the aim of gaining interesting and well-paid employment, or continuing your education to BSc (Hons) level.

You will be expected to attend College for a minimum of 16 hours per week: two full days, or a combination of days and evening sessions. Our computing courses are delivered in small groups, by lecturers with a wide range of industry backgrounds. The teaching team have adopted a hands on approach to best familiarise you with industry practice.

The units available for study on this course are likely to include:

• Networking
• Professional Practice
• Database Design & Development
• Security
• Managing a Successful Computing Project
• Software Development Cycles
• Web Development

You will complete a Computing project as part of your programme of study. This project will be set by the awarding body.

Assessment is 100% assignment based. There will be no formal examinations on this programme. Teaching methods will include lectures, practical sessions, group work, tutorials and workshops. In addition, substantial learning resources and support materials are available online, facilitating home study.

You must be at least 18 years old (with 120 UCAS points) and have GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C. You should also hold one of the following: A BTEC National (Level 3) Diploma in IT, at Least one A-Level pass and supporting passes in GCSE at Grade C or above, a Access to Higher Education qualification or related work experience.
On successful completion of the HND you can progress on to further study on our BA (Hons) Degree in Business Management or choose to enter employment. The course opens up excellent career opportunities in IT, where you could gain employment in roles including computer programmer, IT specialist, IT support, database designer and more.

You may see a fee attached to the course you’re interested in, but if you’re aged 19+ you’ll more than likely be eligible to enrol onto an adult course for FREE.
