How to apply

The Course

The Level 3 course in Media is fun but challenging, and ideal if you are seeking a career in media or progression to higher education. The course allows you to explore a wide range of media subjects and to gain theoretical and practical knowledge of the concepts and processes involved in making media products. You’ll also learn and develop a broad range of media skills and understanding of the production processes involved in the various media. Contextual studies, media concepts, marketing, audience research and investigation of the industry support the practical areas of the course. Your assignments will allow you to make realistic media products using the College’s outstanding facilities, often working with external clients on live assignment briefs. Additionally, there are a number of pathways that you can choose to specialise in.

The Games Development pathway (available at both our Crewe and Chester Campuses) will allow you to study the process of developing game ideas, designing characters, storylines, and marketing materials, and gain essential knowledge in 3D modelling and scripting. Studying on this course will give you essential insight and information into the gaming industry, including how to pitch ideas and crucial project management skills. This course is supported by audio production lessons which will enable you to design sound effects for your game and strengthen your industry knowledge and skills even further.

The Film, Television and Broadcasting pathway (available at both our Crewe and Chester Campuses) will give you the opportunity to study television and film, learning how to deconstruct and analyse productions before planning and producing your own. Your tutor will guide you through the production process, using industry standard documentation and practices to equip you with the right knowledge and understanding to work in this business. This course is supported by lessons in audio production, allowing you to learn soundtrack production. Not only will you make your own video production but you will get the opportunity to create your own sound effects. This pathway is available at both our Crewe and Chester Campuses.

The Audio and Radio pathway (available at our Crewe Campuse only) will give you the opportunity to study across various disciplines including foley/sound effect production, music technology and radio. You will write, produce and present your work on the radio with the opportunity to appear on a real community radio station. This course is supported by lessons in moving image where you will produce a short video production to enable you to test your audio production skills in creating sound effects and music.
