How to apply

The Course

This course is one of a range of courses offered by the CIPD. The course is an advanced level qualification that is comparable to postgraduate study and is the highest level of qualification offered by CIPD.

The qualification is based on the CIPD Profession Map. The Map was launched in 2018 having been developed in collaboration with a wide range of experts working at the heart of the profession. It sets the international benchmark for the people profession and provides a strong foundation to give people professionals the confidence and capabilities to guide their decision-making, actions and behaviours.

Each unit within the CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management has clear linkage to the Profession Map. The core units are directly aligned to the core knowledge and core behaviours of the Profession Map.

You’ll study the following eight core units:

  • Work and working lives in a changing business environment
  • People management and development strategies for performance
  • Personal effectiveness, ethics and business acumen
  • Business research in people practice
  • Strategic employment relations
  • Resourcing and talent management to sustain success
  • Strategic reward management
  • Learning and development practice

The College has a minimum 80% attendance requirement for all courses.  This is to ensure that all students receive sufficient support, guidance and knowledge to achieve their chosen qualification.  It is appreciated that students who are professional practitioners and attending part time may have demands made on them by their workplace.  However, the college has an expectation that students manage their own learning and attend appropriately.

Guided learning hours 240 GLH Total credit value 120 credits

Attendance is one evening a week between 4pm and 9pm with the opportunity to book a one to one tutorial with your tutor between 4pm – 5pm.

Please click on the apply button to apply for the course. Once your application has been reviewed and you meet the entry requirements, your course tutor will offer you a place by email.  Once you accept the place, you will be on the list and we will contact you nearer the start date with more information about enrolment arrangements.

The entry requirement for the level 7 qualification is evidence of a good standard of English and mathematics at Level 2 or equivalent. Ideally, students will have completed the CIPD Level 5 qualification or hold a degree-level qualification in a related subject. All potential students complete a CIPD application form and undertake an interview with the CIPD teaching team to assess suitability.

The qualification is suited to individuals who may be:

  • experienced people practitioners
  • currently leading and managing people and practice within organisations
  • wanting to extend and deepen their skills and understanding to shape strategy, policy and people

Upon successful completion, students with the relevant professional experience can apply for Chartered Membership (MCIPD).  Chartered Membership is a visible sign of your ability to lead strategic thinking, drive change and create value for your organisation. At Chartered Member grade you are using your expertise and knowledge to make informed decisions and to influence others, and you are delivering positive change through people solutions.

You could progress onto higher-level study at Masters’ level. You could also progress into a number of job roles such as:

  • Head of HR
  • Senior HR manager
  • HR consultant or people development manager
