How to apply

The Course

This certificate is a 30-credit qualification. Learners will work with the College record label, the in-house local radio station and the media department to develop their skills for professional employment in the music and audio/visual industry.

Tutors on the course offer their professional expertise to deliver a largely practical focus including: recording, sequencing and sound manipulation, whilst providing essential grounding in theoretical elements.

There are no formal examinations on this course but you will be expected to complete some formative testing and on-line assessment. Learners will be expected to complete a portfolio of work that demonstrates their skills as an audio engineer.

The Level 3 National Foundation Diploma will provide skills in:

  • Audio recording
  • Audio/MIDI sequencing
  • Synthesis and sampling

Typically you will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C (or above), including at least a 4/3 (C/D) (or above) combination for maths and English.
Progression onto a Subsidiary Diploma (equivalent to one A Level) in your second year of study will extend your specialist knowledge and develop practical skills required in the creative music industry. Alternatively, the qualification offers UCAS points like any other A Level for progression onto Higher Education.

Adults can enrol for FREE

You may see a fee attached to the course you’re interested in, but if you’re aged 19+ you’ll more than likely be eligible to enrol onto an adult course for FREE.
