How to apply

The Course

Studying Core Maths can help you develop your quantitative and problem-solving skills. This will give you confidence in understanding the mathematical content of other courses that you are studying. It will help you become better informed citizens, able to make sense of the information you will be presented with in employment, further study or later life.

The qualification is linear so you will sit two exams at the end of the course.

 You will study the following compulsory topics:

·         Analysis of data

·         Maths for personal finance

·         Estimation

·         Critical analysis of given data and models

You will also study some of the following topics:

·         The normal distribution

·         Probabilities and estimation

·         Correlation and regression

·         Critical path and risk analysis

·         Expectation

·         Cost benefit analysis

·         Graphical methods

·         Rates of change

·         Exponential functions

Typically, you will need a minimum of a grade 4/C in GCSE Maths or an equivalent qualification.
On successful completion of this course, you could progress to study A Level Maths. Additionally, some universities give reduced offers for admissions to some of their degree courses for those who have taken a Core Maths qualification.
