How to apply

The Course

This advanced programme is designed for students who are aiming to develop specialist skills in fabrication and welding for progression into higher-level study or directly into employment. The course focuses on advanced fabrication and welding techniques that are widely used across the engineering and manufacturing industries.

Students will gain practical and technical knowledge in key areas such as MIG and TIG welding, sheet metal work, and safe working practices within an engineering environment. Emphasis is placed on building advanced skills that meet industry standards, ensuring students are prepared for the expectations of professional engineering workplaces.

Training is delivered in the college’s high-tech engineering facility at the Ellesmere Port campus, where students will benefit from access to industry-standard tools, equipment, and expert tutors.This course provides a strong foundation for either further study or direct entry into skilled employment, equipping students with the expertise and workplace awareness valued by the engineering and manufacturing sector.

You will need a grade 4/C in GCSE English and Maths or a Level 2 Engineering qualification with welding experience.
You can progress onto a BTEC Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge) Diploma – Level 3 (dependent upon GCSE Maths and/or English grades) or into employment within the engineering and manufacturing industries.

The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.
