How to apply

The Course

This course provides students with a broad understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting positive behaviour and working with the class teacher to contribute to children’s learning across all subjects.

It is suitable for students working/volunteering in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools. The course requires students to attend a placement school (either in a voluntary or employed capacity) for a minimum of one day per week.

The course length is approximately 12 months; however, length of time on programme is to be agreed with the assessor based on the needs of the student.

This course is suitable for a placement in a reception class onwards (students may also attend a school nursery class placement if agreed by an assessor).

The taught session aspect of the course is delivered remotely, and therefore requires access to a laptop/computer. The practical elements of the course invovles observations of practice that are carried out by the assessor.
