The course aimed at learners wanting to continue their education through applied learning. It provides a wide-ranging study of the engineering sector and is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in engineering. In addition to the skills, knowledge and techniques that underpin the study of the sector, the course gives you experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare you for employment, progression within employment or further study. Mandatory units include: -Engineering Design -Engineering Maths -Engineering Science -Managing a Professional Engineering Project -Mechanical Principles -Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines Plus four optional units from the following: -Electrical and Electronic Principles -Production Engineering for Manufacture
Students need to have at least one of the following: A BTEC Level 3 qualification (or other Level 3 qualification) in an appropriate subject (minimum 120 UCAS points) A-Level profile which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant ARA subject Access to Higher Education Certificate/Diploma Related work experience. In addition, it would be beneficial if students had GCSEs at grade A-C and English and Maths GCSE at grade A-C or equivalent. Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience and/or achievement for a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.Relevant subjects: Maths, Science, electronics, Computer Systems, electrical Installation, Engineering.
