How to apply

The Course

This qualification looks at all aspects of the administration and handling of medication, and aims to help you develop a general understanding of different types of medication and their use, knowledge of the procedures for obtaining, storing, administrating and disposing of medicines, as well as an understanding of legislation and the audit process related to medication. This course could contribute towards aspects of the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework.

Note: this is a knowledge-based qualification; achievement will not allow you to be considered occupationally competent in the administration of medication.

This course should take no longer than five months to complete. There are four mandatory units in this qualification:

  • Understand Medication and Prescriptions
  • Supply, Storage and Disposal of Medication
  • Understand the Requirements for the Safe Administration of Medication
  • Record Keeping and Audit Processes for Medication

This is a remote learning course which will be assessed via a portfolio of evidence.

There are no entry requirements for this course; however, a good level of English and a reasonable level of IT skills are required. There will be an initial assessment as part of the application process. You do not need to be working as this is a knowledge only qualification. This qualification can enhance your CV when applying for employment in the health and social care industry.

Achievement of this qualification could lead on to courses such as:

  • Level 2 or 3 Apprenticeships in Health and Social Care 
  • Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness
  • Level 2 Certificate in Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings

The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.

Funding for Adult Courses

You may see a fee attached to the course you’re interested in, but if you are 19+ there may be funding options available to cover the cost of your course.
