How to apply

The Course

Develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to begin a career in the construction industry with the Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction Management. This Level 4 course provides a broad introduction to construction management and the key functions that support successful construction projects. You will build a strong foundation in construction principles while developing the professional and transferable skills needed for further study or employment.

Topics include:

• Construction management principles
• Construction methods and practices
• Workplace scenarios
• Research and independent study
• Communication and teamwork
• Problem solving and analysis
• Professional behaviours
• Construction industry knowledge

Throughout the course, you will gain a broad understanding of the construction industry through a combination of practical activities, independent study and workplace-focused scenarios. You will strengthen your research, analytical and communication skills while learning how to apply construction knowledge in realistic situations.

The course also develops the professional behaviours expected within the construction sector, including teamwork, responsibility and effective decision making. These transferable skills are highly valued by employers and provide a solid foundation for future study and career development.

By the end of the course, you will have a sound understanding of the core concepts of construction management and the confidence to progress onto Level 5 study or begin a career within the construction industry.

We welcome an application profile that meets one of the following:

  • A BTEC Level 3 qualification in construction
  • A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
  • Related work experience as determined at interview with the Course Team Leader
  • An international equivalent of the above

and:

  • GCSE grades A* to C ( 9 to 4) in maths and English

You could progress onto the Construction Management HND at the College or another related Level 5 programme. You could also progress into employment in the industry.

The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.

Funding for Adult Courses

You may see a fee attached to the course you’re interested in, but if you are 19+ there may be funding options available to cover the cost of your course.

There is funding available for eligible students.

Do I pay this fee?

Higher Education courses such as HNCs and HNDs can be self-funded through a payment plan. However, for eligible students, a tuition fee loan can fund your course through Student Finance England and you may be eligible for a maintenance loan to support your education.

Please note, you should apply for your loan before the course starts. You only commit to the loan once you begin attending the course.
