How to apply

The Course

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Health and Social Care Practice is a one-year, full-time programme that provides a strong foundation for students aiming to work in health, social care, or community settings. The course offers the framework to develop knowledge, understanding, and professional practice across education, healthcare, and community work.

A key element of the HNC is the requirement to complete 225 hours of work experience or placement within healthcare, social care, or community-based environments. This ensures that students gain practical skills alongside their academic study, preparing them for future employment in the sector.

The programme also provides opportunities to explore a variety of non-clinical placement options, supporting the achievement of the qualification and allowing students to apply theory to practice in a professional setting. Assessment is carried out through assignments, reports, and placement evidence, enabling students to demonstrate both academic and applied skills relevant to the sector.
