How to apply

The Course

This course will help you discover the science behind sport and prepare you for a career in the fitness industry, or for a range of degree courses. The course consists of core modules covering the essentials of sports science and fitness. These modules are:
  • Careers in Sport
  • Health, Wellbeing and Sport
  • Fitness Skills Development
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a BTEC Extended Certificate in the subject that is the equivalent of 1 A Level. The subject can be studied alongside two other A Level subjects.

Typically you will need 5 GCSEs, including two at grade 5/B (or above) and three at grade 4/C (or above) including maths and English. You will also need a grade in 5 Biology GCSE, or a 5/5 for Science GCSE if you studied the double award.
Students who are successful have the option of progressing to study further at university with a distinction grade providing the equivalent of an A Level grade A. Students could gain employment in a health and fitness establishment or progress into coaching. Careers in any branch of the forces or emergency services are also possible. In addition, this qulification can lead to higher apprenticeships in the sport and fitness industry.

The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.

Funding for Adult Courses

You may see a fee attached to the course you’re interested in, but if you are 19+ there may be funding options available to cover the cost of your course.
