This one-year Higher National Certificate (HNC) will help you develop a broad range of technical and professional computing skills. Combining practical activities with academic study, the course is designed to prepare you for further study or a career in the computing and digital sector.
Topics include:
The course explores how computing and IT systems are designed, developed, implemented and supported across different industries. A hands-on approach gives you opportunities to apply your knowledge to practical tasks and develop skills that reflect current industry practices.
Alongside technical areas such as programming, networking, databases and web development, you will develop professional and project management skills. You will also complete a Computing project set by the awarding body, bringing together the knowledge and skills gained throughout the programme.
Teaching takes place in small groups and includes lectures, practical sessions, group work, tutorials and workshops, supported by lecturers with a range of industry experience. Online learning resources and support materials are also available for independent study.
Assessment is 100% assignment based, with no formal examinations. Full-time study requires a minimum of 16 hours of College attendance each week, which may include two full days or a combination of daytime and evening sessions.
By successfully completing the course, you will achieve an industry-recognised HNC in Computing. You could progress to the HND with a further year of study, continue towards a BSc (Hons) degree or use your skills to pursue opportunities within the computing and digital sector.
The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.

Do I pay this fee?
Higher Education courses such as HNCs and HNDs can be self-funded through a payment plan. However, for eligible students, a tuition fee loan can fund your course through Student Finance England and you may be eligible for a maintenance loan to support your education.
Please note, you should apply for your loan before the course starts. You only commit to the loan once you begin attending the course.
