More than 4,000 primary and secondary school pupils from across Cheshire visited Cheshire College – South & West this summer for a series of interactive experience days, giving young people the opportunity to explore new subjects, discover future career pathways and experience college life first-hand.
Hosted across the College’s Crewe and Ellesmere Port Campuses, the experience days introduced pupils to a wide range of curriculum areas, helping them gain insight into further education and the opportunities available beyond school.
Throughout the day, pupils took part in hands-on workshops led by college staff and local employers, exploring specialist learning environments including hairdressing salons, Academy restaurants, engineering and construction workshops, theatres and other vocational and academic areas. The activities encouraged pupils to try something new, build confidence and experience learning in a practical and engaging way.

Schools from across Cheshire and neighbouring areas took part, including The County High School, Leftwich, Middlewich High School, Shavington Academy, Blacon High School, Queen’s Park High School and Whitby High School, among others from across the region.

Ruth Szolkowska, Vice Principal Innovation, Curriculum and Quality at Cheshire College – South & West, said:
“It was fantastic to welcome so many young people to our Campuses. For our primary school pupils especially, thinking about their next steps may feel a little far off, but days like these are about planting early seeds of inspiration and introducing them to the wide range of possibilities available through education.”
“These experience days give pupils the opportunity to discover new subjects, try something new and begin to think about the many opportunities available to them in the future. We hope they left feeling inspired, more confident and excited about what’s ahead.”
The experience days form part of the College’s ongoing work with local schools to raise aspirations, broaden horizons and help young people make informed decisions about their future education and career pathways through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
