Cheshire College – South & West, in partnership with the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), has launched a new fully funded Work Ready programme, creating a direct route for unemployed adults into engineering construction careers, with accredited training and guaranteed job interviews on completion.
The 14-week programme is aimed at individuals aged 19 and over who are currently unemployed and looking to re-enter the workforce. Delivered at the College’s Ellesmere Port Campus, the programme begins on 11 May 2026.
Developed in response to a growing demand for skilled workers in the engineering construction sector, the programme supports both individuals into employment and employers facing workforce shortages, helping respond to emerging priorities across the region’s industrial and low carbon economy, including developments linked to HyNet.
Participants will gain free industry-recognised training, accredited qualifications, employability support and a guaranteed interview for live vacancies on successful completion.

Ruth Szolkowska, Vice Principal for Innovation, Curriculum and Quality, commented:
“Working in partnership with ECITB allows us to offer something practical for people who are currently unemployed and looking to get back into work. Students will gain industry-recognised training alongside the behaviours and decision-making skills employers are looking for.
With regular engagement from employers throughout, participants also get a clear understanding of workplace expectations and are better prepared to move into roles at the end of the programme.”
Participants will complete industry-recognised safety and technical training alongside a Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations.
Training will include working at height, confined spaces, abrasive wheels, manual handling, and safe use of tools.
The programme has been designed to support people back into sustainable employment while helping to address skills needs within the engineering construction sector.
Places on the pilot are limited, and interested applicants are encouraged to register their interest by 1st May 2026. For further information or to express interest, contact Liz Owen at Elizabeth.Owen@ccsw.ac.uk or Craig Midgley at Craig.Midgley@ecitb.org.uk.
