THE NEWS AT CHESHIRE COLLEGE:

Students Raise Over £500 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Charity Football Match

July 3, 2025

The Uniformed Protective Services department at Cheshire College – South & West united to raise an impressive £568 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital through a charity football match held at Ellesmere Port’s Sports Village, involving both students and staff.

The event brought together students across all course levels and provided a positive opportunity to build teamwork and community engagement, as many prepare to leave college and move forward into their careers.

Organised by the students themselves as part of an annual tradition, the group voted on the charity event they wished to host at the end of the academic year. This year, the students chose a football match to bring everyone together for a worthy cause.

In addition to raising funds, the event played a vital role in developing the students’ leadership, communication, and collaboration skills—key attributes for their future roles in protective services and beyond.

Helen Nellist, Deputy Principal at Cheshire College, commented:

“We are incredibly proud of our students’ commitment both academically and within the community. Raising such a significant amount for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital shows their dedication and the positive impact they can make beyond the classroom.”

Jennifer Waddington, Lecturer in Sports and Uniformed Protective Services added:

“I am absolutely delighted with each and every one of our students. They demonstrated teamwork, resilience, unity, and friendship by collaborating closely with fellow students and staff. Everyone was in great spirits, making the event the perfect way to close an incredible year.”
