From Concept to Creation: Cheshire College Students Impress in Creative Makeup Competition

Hair and Beauty students from Cheshire College showcased their creative and technical skills at a Creative Makeup Competition held at Crewe Campus, themed Alice in Wonderland vs Wicked

The competition challenged students to design and present a complete creative look inspired by the theme, combining makeup artistry, hairstyling, outfit design and mood boarding. Working to a professional brief, participants spent several weeks developing their concepts, carefully considering colour, texture and character interpretation to produce cohesive final looks.

Judges praised the high standard of entries, highlighting students’ originality, attention to detail and professional presentation. Ruth Szolkowska, Vice Principal Innovation, Curriculum and Quality at Cheshire College, who was also a judge, said:

“Students worked incredibly hard to create their final looks, and the level of focus and commitment throughout was really impressive. The quality across all entries was consistently high, which made judging a real challenge.”

“Experiences like this are important for student development, as they give students the chance to work under pressure, build confidence and apply their skills in a realistic, industry-style environment.”

Following the judging, Ally Davies was awarded first place, with Megan Clarke securing second place. Leanne Fraser-Nield placed third, while Ruby Gee achieved fourth place, completing a strong overall showcase of student talent.

Lilia Modral, who participated in the competition, said:

“I really enjoyed taking part in the competition. It was a great opportunity to build skills like time management and creativity, and it’s helped me think about the kind of career I want in hairdressing. Experiences like this are especially valuable if you want to work in the more creative side of the industry, such as theatre or media.”

Cheshire College continues to offer hair and beauty courses that equip students with the technical skills, creative expertise, and professional experience needed to progress confidently into employment or further study.
