The Course

This course is ideal for those who already have experience in men’s hairdressing or barbering and want to develop more advanced skills. The programme provides an opportunity to expand your technical knowledge while exploring creative cutting, styling and colouring techniques for men’s hair.

Topics include:

  • Monitoring and maintaining health and safety practices
  • Promoting and selling products and services to clients
  • Supporting colleagues with client consultations
  • Creative hairdressing design skills
  • Research within the hair and beauty sector
  • Cutting and shaping facial hair
  • Advanced men’s cutting techniques
  • Creating a variety of men’s hairstyles
  • Hair colouring techniques
  • Creating different looks using colour

Practical sessions focus on developing greater precision, creativity and confidence when cutting and styling men’s hair. You will explore a range of techniques to create different looks while considering individual client requirements and current industry practices.

The course also develops skills in facial hair cutting and shaping, alongside the use of colour to create a variety of finished styles. Creative design skills provide further opportunities to experiment with techniques and develop your individual approach to men’s hairdressing and barbering.

Alongside practical training, the programme explores client consultation, health and safety, product and service promotion and research within the wider hair and beauty sector.

By the end of the course, you will have developed a broader range of professional and creative barbering skills, supporting progression within the industry or further specialist training.

You will need to hold a Level 2 qualification in Barbering or Hairdressing (subject to a skills test), or have significant industry experience.
Progression to Level 3 Hairdressing at the College or an advanced cutting and colouring course.

The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.

Do I pay this fee?

Higher Education courses such as HNCs and HNDs can be self-funded through a payment plan. However, for eligible students, a tuition fee loan can fund your course through Student Finance England and you may be eligible for a maintenance loan to support your education.

Please note, you should apply for your loan before the course starts. You only commit to the loan once you begin attending the course.
