Develop the confidence and practical skills to take care of your vehicle with this six-week introductory course. Designed for adults with little or no previous experience, the course covers the fundamentals of vehicle maintenance and provides hands-on experience in a practical workshop environment.
Topics include:
Practical sessions will introduce you to common maintenance tasks that can help keep a vehicle safe and running smoothly. From checking fluids and looking after tyres to inspecting brakes and maintaining a battery, the course provides an opportunity to become more familiar with how your vehicle works.
You will also learn how to select and use the appropriate tools for different maintenance tasks, with a focus on working safely and confidently.
The course is certificated by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and is ideal if you want to become more confident maintaining your own vehicle, potentially reduce maintenance costs or explore a future career in the motor vehicle industry.
After completing the course, you could continue developing your skills through the Next Steps in Car Maintenance or Skills in Car Maintenance programmes, with opportunities to progress towards the Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance course.
The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.

Do I pay this fee?
Higher Education courses such as HNCs and HNDs can be self-funded through a payment plan. However, for eligible students, a tuition fee loan can fund your course through Student Finance England and you may be eligible for a maintenance loan to support your education.
Please note, you should apply for your loan before the course starts. You only commit to the loan once you begin attending the course.
