The Course

Explore the relationship between people and the natural world with this two-year Environmental Science A Level. Combining elements of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography, you'll investigate the science behind some of the major environmental challenges facing our planet.

Source Material Overview:

  • The Living Environment and Biodiversity
  • Conservation and Ecosystem Management
  • Climate Change and the Physical Environment
  • Energy Resources and Energy Security
  • Pollution and Environmental Monitoring
  • Sustainable Food Production

You'll explore how natural systems work and examine the impact of human activity on the environment. Topics include biodiversity, conservation, climate change and pollution. You'll also investigate how resources such as energy, food, fisheries and forests can be managed more sustainably.

Throughout the course, you'll develop practical scientific skills through laboratory activities and fieldwork investigations. You'll learn how to collect and analyse environmental data, carry out research and evaluate evidence when considering potential solutions to environmental problems.

As you progress, you'll consider contemporary environmental issues and how scientific knowledge can support sustainable decision making. You'll also develop skills in research, data analysis and problem-solving, providing a strong foundation for further study in environmental science and related subjects.

Typically, you will need 5 GCSEs with two subjects at grade 5 and three subjects at grade 4 or above, including a 4/4 combination for Maths and English.
You can progress onto university courses in Environmental Science, Ecology and Conservation, Geography, Earth Sciences or Environmental Management.
