The Course

This course is a great starting point if you are new to coding and want to understand how software and digital systems work. You will explore the ideas behind programming, discover how digital products are created and develop useful knowledge for work or further study.

Topics include:

  • Computational thinking
  • Writing and interpreting basic code
  • Websites and applications
  • Software development
  • Testing and identifying errors
  • Cyber security
  • Safe digital practices
  • Coding across different industries

The course introduces the principles behind coding and software development, helping you understand how programmers approach problems and turn their ideas into digital products. You will explore how basic code works and look at the processes involved in creating websites and applications.

You will also learn why testing is an important part of software development, how errors can be identified and the importance of cyber security when working with digital technology.

Coding skills are used across a growing range of industries and job roles. By the end of the course, you will have a better understanding of programming and the digital world, providing a foundation for further study or developing your digital skills for the workplace.

There are no formal qualifications required. An interest in coding, technology, or digital skills will help you get the most out of this course.
You can progress onto a Level 3 Certificate in Coding Practices or move into further digital or IT training.

The course fee shown is the co-funded rate which is only available for people living in the local authority areas of Cheshire West and Chester or Cheshire East. If you live outside of these local authorities please contact the College for fee information.

Funding for Adult Courses

You may see a fee attached to the course you’re interested in, but if you are 19+ there may be funding options available to cover the cost of your course.

There is funding available for eligible students.

Do I pay this fee?

Higher Education courses such as HNCs and HNDs can be self-funded through a payment plan. However, for eligible students, a tuition fee loan can fund your course through Student Finance England and you may be eligible for a maintenance loan to support your education.

Please note, you should apply for your loan before the course starts. You only commit to the loan once you begin attending the course.
