Safeguarding & Welfare Officer (EL828)

Salary: £29,838 to £32,579 (per annum)

Contract Type: Permanent                               

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Ellesmere Port campus

We are looking for an individual with a passion for supporting young people to join our College in the role of Safeguarding and Welfare Officer. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and chair ePEP reviews, reviewing outcomes as dictated by learners’ progress, needs and aspirations;
  • Attend meetings with the Local Authority for learners who are safeguarded (those with Child Protection Plans, Child in Need Plans and Team Around the Family);
  • Make timely referrals to a range of agencies, including Cheshire West Children’s Social Care, Early Help and Safeguarding Hub, in order to appropriately safeguard and support learners;
  • Provide mental health support / mental health first aid to learners with mental health concerns and/or support needs (including those with serious concerns);
  • Be an active member of the College’s Be Safe Team and respond appropriately to safeguarding disclosures and concerns (which can include serious concerns) which relate to the welfare and well-being of students in a timely manner;
  • Improve, monitor and record the educational attainment of vulnerable and safeguarded learners and those who are cared for (including unaccompanied asylum seekers); and
  • Support the delivery and development of a range of events, strategies and training programmes to increase understanding of the areas of mental health across the College.

Key Person Specification Requirements:

  • Level 4 (or equivalent) qualification;
  • GCSE Grade C (4/5) in English and Maths or equivalent;
  • Level 3 Safeguarding qualification (or willingness to achieve);
  • Experience of working in a supportive environment;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Safeguarding procedures;
  • Experience of working and communicating effectively with people with mental health support needs;
  • Ability to carry out administrative duties effectively;
  • Ability to work with empathy and sensitivity with emotional resilience; and
  • Enhanced DBS check.
