- In a move to provide continuous support to former learners, Cheshire College – South & West have launched an alumni association.
- Through the alumni association, the College aims to offer learners a platform to mentor, network and to share personal and professional experiences with friends and colleagues.
- Highly acclaimed Chef and former hospitality and catering learner, Brian Mellor, was one of the first to sign up to the College’s alumni association.
The newly launched alumni has been created for learners who have completed their College courses and would like to continue to benefit from the services that the College can provide, such as careers support and our ‘coming soon’ alumni networking events.
The decision to launch the alumni association stemmed from the desire of past and present learners seeking to develop a network with others for continued support and learning. Through the alumni association, the College aims to offer learners a platform to mentor, network and to share personal and professional experiences with friends and colleagues.
Vicky Byrne, Tony Walker, Adele Pollard and Brian Mellor, were amongst the first former learners to join the Cheshire College – South & West Alumni Association.
Vicky, from Crewe, began exploring her options with the College when her daughter was just 8 months old, and has recently graduated from the University of Derby with a First Class Honours LLB qualification. Vicky said: ‘’The support I received whist studying was excellent, I received both financial and careers advice, as well as reassurance and guidance from my tutors.
‘’This network of support has certainly helped me to achieve the results I have obtained, not to mention receiving the Dean’s Award at the University in my first and second year studies: something I never dreamed would happen to me! Because of this, I have recommended the College to so many friends who have since enrolled on courses.’’
There are several benefits to becoming part of our alumni, including career support, networking opportunities and access to facilities for business needs. Members will also have opportunities to inspire new talent by sharing their experiences and industry knowledge with existing learners. Something many of our ex-learners are already doing.
Highly acclaimed Chef and former Hospitality and Catering learner, Brian Mellor, said: ‘’I studied BTEC Diploma in Hospitality Management at College and I am now both a business partner and College Ambassador.
‘’I enjoy coming into the College at the beginning of the academic year and introducing myself to the new learners and reacquainting myself with the current learners. It is important to me to share with learners the opportunities that are available to them outside of College, if they are dedicated to their field of study.’’
Helen Nellist, Deputy Principal and Deputy CEO, commented: ‘’College creates opportunities for everybody, where they can develop their skills, earn qualifications and build a career. We have seen our learners succeed and rise to the top of their industries with the high-quality and effective teaching and support we have here at College. Our vision is to ensure our College is supported by a thriving and engaged alumni community.
‘’We are extremely proud of all our learners and are delighted to launch our alumni association, giving our former learners a fantastic opportunity to stay connected.’’
