How to apply

The Course

This two-year course will allow you to develop a range of specialist technical skills, enabling you to meet the demands of employers in the computing sector and to adapt to a constantly changing world. The programme will cover a broad range of computing topics that may be encountered in modern business. You will benefit from our excellent cutting-edge computing facilities, small tuition groups and extremely supportive, industry experienced teaching staff. By completing this course you will achieve an industry recognised HND, which will enhance your career prospects and your employability. During the course you may also have the opportunity to gain additional professional IT qualifications with further study.

You will choose from one of the following specialist pathways:

  • Business Analyst
  • Data Analyst
  • Software Engineer
  • Cyber Security

You will complete a Computing project as part of your programme of study. This project will be set by the awarding body.

Assessment is 100% assignment based. There will be no formal examinations on this programme. Teaching methods will include lectures, practical sessions, group work, tutorials and workshops. In addition, substantial learning resources and support materials are available online, facilitating home study.

The HND is available for students who wish to progress from a HNC at Cheshire College. If you have obtained your HNC from another institution or have had a gap in your studies your application will be reviewed to ensure you have previously undertaken a combination of units that is complimentary to our HND programme.

We welcome an application profile that meets one of the following:

  • A BTEC Level 3 qualification in computing
  • A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
  • Related work experience as determined at interview with the Course Team Leader
  • An international equivalent of the above

and:

  • GCSE grades A* to C ( 9 to 4) in maths and English
On successful completion of the HND you can progress on to further study at degree level or choose to enter employment. The course opens up excellent career opportunities in IT, where you could gain employment in roles including computer programmer, IT specialist, IT support, database designer and more.
