Cheshire College student is shortlisted for prestigious High Sheriff’s Awards for Enterprise

One remarkable learner from Cheshire College – South & West has been acknowledged for his accomplishments after being shortlisted for the High Sheriff’s Award for Enterprise ‘Apprentice of the Year’.

Aiden Melbourne, aged 20, a final year AAT apprentice at leading accountancy practice, Shaw Austin Ltd, has been shortlisted for this year’s prestigious award.

Founded in 2006, this year marks the 15th anniversary of the High Sheriff’s Awards which were introduced to recognise the outstanding achievements in the Cheshire, Halton and Warrington areas. The Awards celebrate the innovative minds working in enterprise and the impact they are making in the local community.

Michael Robinson, Portfolio Manager at Shaw Austin Ltd, commented: “At Shaw Austin we are proud of our training scheme which has started off many accounting apprentices in their chosen career. I am really pleased that Aiden’s hard work has been recognised by reaching the short list for this prestigious award. It is an outstanding achievement!”

In his second year at the company, Aiden was made aware of the announcement during 2022 National Apprenticeship Week and said: “I am very honoured to have not only been put forward for this award but also to be shortlisted, I feel it shows the hard work and commitment I have put into work and my studies over the last few years. As I am only at the start of my career, I believe that this puts me on good stead for the future as I have so much more to learn and develop professionally.”

Karen Roberts, Assistant Director of Apprenticeships & Employer Engagement said: “We’re incredibly proud of Aiden’s achievements. It’s been so rewarding to see Aiden’s growth and I have no doubt that this is just the beginning of his successful career, and the recognition and accolades that will follow. All of us at Cheshire College are wishing him the best of luck ahead of the awards ceremony.”
