You will discover the world of engineering, engineering technology and the future of engineering. You will have the opportunity to develop specialist skills and gain a broader understanding and experience within real work environments. This course is a good starting point for those who wish to progress into engineering but require more experience and knowledge of the specialisms in the industry. The course covers mechanical engineering, maths and communications. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start or progress a career. The course is also an excellent basis to apply for and achieve a full Apprenticeship within the engineering sector or go directly into employment in the industry. The course is valued by universities and higher education providers and is a route further study at Level 4 and on Degree-level programmes.
This programme of study includes:
• A BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma which is a work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It's a wide-ranging course will equip you with the academic and practical skills required for success in a variety of mechanical, manufacturing and electrical and electronic engineering occupations.
• Practical Skills training to cover specific skills, knowledge and behaviours of a range of engineering disciplines which have been developed in consultation with engineering industry specialists and training providers to ensure that they meets the needs of employers and learners such as hand fitting techniques, mechanical and electrical maintenance techniques and assembly techniques.
Your course may be FREE if you are:
- Aged 19+ (subject to eligibility) and earning less than £17,374.50 per year (£1,447 per month) studying on Level 1 or Level 2 courses*
- Aged 16-18 years
- Aged 19-23 years and studying for your first full Level 2 or full Level 3 qualification
* from 1 April 2022 earnings limit is increased to £18,525 per year (£1,543 per month)
