Start your journey into accounting with the AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping. This course is ideal if you are interested in a career in accountancy, want to progress to further study or need bookkeeping skills to support your own business. You will develop a strong understanding of the role of a bookkeeper while gaining practical skills that can be applied in a range of financial settings.

You will learn the principles of bookkeeping, including how to identify assets, liabilities, income, expenses, capital, profit and loss. You will also develop practical skills in processing customer and supplier transactions, recording receipts and payments in a cash book and checking financial records against bank statements in preparation for bank reconciliation.
The course introduces the dual effect of transactions, providing a foundation in double-entry bookkeeping that will support further study at Level 2. You will also explore the role of accounting software, comparing cloud-based and traditional systems while learning about software security and the importance of protecting financial data.
By the end of the course, you will have the confidence to carry out basic bookkeeping tasks and a solid foundation to progress onto higher-level accounting or bookkeeping qualifications, or use your skills within a small business or self-employed role.
After successful completion of this course you could progress to AAT Level 2 in Bookeeping or Accounting at the College or one of our other Level 2 programmes.

Do I pay this fee?
Higher Education courses such as HNCs and HNDs can be self-funded through a payment plan. However, for eligible students, a tuition fee loan can fund your course through Student Finance England and you may be eligible for a maintenance loan to support your education.
Please note, you should apply for your loan before the course starts. You only commit to the loan once you begin attending the course.
