Claire Barton

Dean of Higher Education

Following a career in the hairdressing industry and developing a passion for teaching through the training of apprentices, Claire progressed into teaching in the FE sector in 1997. New to the College, she has held several roles within the FE sector, including teaching, programme and curriculum management, and progressing to Senior Leadership level with responsibility for HE and Quality. Always with a focus on quality improvement and assurance, Claire has several years’ experience delivering teacher training and staff development programmes, and, as an External Verifier, has worked with centres nationally to monitor and improve standards.

The move from curriculum into managing higher education followed graduating with a Masters’ Degree in Education in 2007. Developing a passion for life-long learning and improving opportunities for non-traditional HE level learning has led to a long history of managing college-based Higher Education. Claire is experienced in developing new provision, university partnerships, compliance, quality assurance and enhancement of HE, and contributes to national forums to promote the sector and drive positive change.
