School Partnership

Who we are

Our School Partnership Team is committed to working with schools in Cheshire, and our neighbouring counties including the Wirral, Staffordshire, Shropshire and Flintshire. We offer a variety of activities to enable learners to find out about their options available when they leave school.

Our team has a breadth of expertise and knowledge, and we offer impartial advice and guidance to support learners in their transition from high school to taking their next step. We are always looking into creative and innovative ways of working with our partners.

We are passionate about supporting young people to have access to information about their options post 16 and working with schools to support a positive transition.

Impartiality

As a provider we are matrix accredited, this quality assures our services and our commitment to offering impartial information, advice and guidance.  Each school that we work with has a dedicated School Liaison Coordinator, who will work closely with the school, staff and learners to support young people with their options post 16.

How we can help

Outlined below is an insight into some of the activities that we currently run, this list is not exhaustive and we can tailor activities to support the needs of your learners.

Presentations

We have a range of presentations available on:
-Post 16 options, including vocational and A level pathways
-Apprenticeships
-How to apply and what happens next
-Options available post-18

Our presentation sessions are designed to offer learners an in-depth look into their options. They’re suitable for years 10-13 and can be delivered at your school/sixth form, either to a single class or an assembly.

Workshops and specialist sector sessions

-Subject specific workshops
-CV development
-Interview skills
-Mock interviews

Campus tours and taster sessions

We can arrange for small groups or individuals to come and visit Cheshire College – South & West and find out more about the campuses and the courses available. This gives learners the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a learner at the College. We can also arrange for whole year groups to attend a full or half day taster session where they could get the opportunity to experience different curriculum areas. We have found this particularly useful for Year 10 learners in supporting their choice in their next steps.

Careers Events, Options and Parents Evenings

We are happy to support your school by attending these events and offering information, advice and guidance to learners and their parents from years 8 through to 13.

Lunchtime Advice

Our team can attend your school regularly to help with applications, enquiries or advice and guidance over the lunchtime period to support your learners.

Careers Advisers

We also have a dedicated team of careers advisers who are available to offer one-to-one or group support to learners researching their post-16 options or those who need additional guidance when completing their CVs and applications.

Professional development opportunities for School staff

Throughout the year we can hold training opportunities for teachers, careers adviser or support staff, this can include campus visits, updates on post 16 options and/or networking opportunities.

Work Experience

At Cheshire College – South & West we are happy to accommodate pupils on work experience where we have the capacity. Please go through normal school procedures to request placements.

14-16 Curriculum Offer

The College 14-16 Curriculum is reviewed annually. Following a comprehensive review in 2019-20 the Curriculum for 2020-21 will maintain its focus on a condensed delivery model that contributes towards Progress 8 measures.

The offer typically includes a one year programme for Year 10 and Year 11 pupils. Year 10 pupils can progress through to year 11 with a choice of subject pathways completing a second year at College. In addition, for those pupils who may need lower level provision at Entry or Level 1, carousel pathway is available. All GCSE English and maths delivery for both pathways is undertaken by the school. However, maths and English is embedded and delivered within all programmes at the College.
