The Course

This programme is designed to provide you with the professional skills to plan, deliver, evaluate and improve activities and initiatives aimed at improving people’s fitness and health-related lifestyles.

Cheshire College South & West is a unique place to study and this programme will give you  unrivalled access to vocational opportunities in the Fitness and Health industry. There is a smaller and more intimate environment that allows you to develop personally and vocationally, and our highly experienced staff will support you in following a career route in your chosen field.

You will have the background knowledge and skills to potentially achieve career progression in the fitness, leisure and health sectors. Job roles in advanced fitness instruction, personal training, exercise referral and physical activity promotion are typical of the careers students will be in a position to develop. Based on module choices, some students will have developed sports-related or management knowledge and skills that will open further career routes. Typical modules can include:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Fitness and Health Assessment
  • Learning at Work (Work Placement)
  • Psychology
  • Communication and Counselling Skills

Our minimum entry requirements are 96 UCAS points from GCE A Levels or equivalent (such as BTEC). Appropriate NVQ Level 3, apprenticeships and work experience will also be considered. Students without evidence of the above qualifications but with appropriate experience, who have the enthusiasm and aptitude for higher level study, are encouraged to apply. Certain work placements will require a DBS check. Applicants are also expected to have GCSE grades in maths and English at grade 9-4/A*- C.
