This Design & Graphics is a two year multi-disciplinary course, which covers a broad range of design and graphics processes. In order to give you a taste of the creative skills you may need for higher education courses or the design industries, we provide the opportunity to work on live client-led briefs, giving you a taste of the ‘real’ creative world. The areas you will study include digital studies, Adobe Creative suite, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, photography – traditional and digital methods, printmaking and illustration including surface pattern design, packaging and 3D design, life drawing, typographic studies, design for advertising and contextual studies. In the second year great emphasis is placed on building a successful portfolio ready for higher education or employment. The focus will be on your chosen specialist subject, resulting in a display of your final major project and best practice at the end of year course exhibition. This is a full-time course for learners who are seeking a career in all areas of Design & Graphics or progression into Higher Education. The course allows you to explore a range of design and graphic subject disciplines. What is Graphic Design? Graphic designers / graphic artists plan, analyse and create visual solutions to communications problems, generate and define concepts, research and explore art and style. They decide the most effective way of getting a message across in print, electronic and film media, using a variety of methods, such as colour, type, illustration, photography, printmaking, digital studies; Adobe Creative Suite: Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. This will also include various layout techniques. On the Design & Graphics course you will work through a broad range of methods and processes that support all aspects of Design and Graphics for industry and higher education. Subjects include: Packaging and 3D Design – Typographic Studies – Life Drawing – Printmaking and Illustration – Design for Advertising – Digital Studies – Photography – Contextual Studies. This Design & Graphics course will introduce you to the creative world of visual communication and aims to broaden your understanding of design and equip you with awareness and skills throughout traditional – hands on and digital methods of design. Design studies classes support the course during the first year, alongside visits to galleries, exhibitions, visiting artists, designers, workshops and residentials. The second year enables you to focus on visual solutions, generation and refining your concepts and ideas. This is a very practical course, you will be creating and developing a strong graphic design portfolio supported by all above subjects to be used for entry for a wide range of Higher Education courses at Degree and Foundation Degree levels, or when seeking employment.
