The Course

During this course you will learn in real work environments to ensure you’re fully prepared to enter the Automotive Industry.

You’ll develop your skills and knowledge of the following:

  • vehicle maintenance and repair
  • removing and replacing vehicle components
  • servicing
  • chassis
  • electrical systems
  • engines
  • transmission
  • pre and post-vehicle inspections

The IMI Technical Diploma is one of the most comprehensive motor vehicle learning programmes available. This internationally recognised qualification provides a standardised approach to the delivery and assessment of the underpinning knowledge requirements of NVQs/SVQs endorsed by the Motor Industry Sector Skills Council (SSC). Areas that are covered by underpinning knowledge and workshop based learning include: chassis technology, engine technology, transmission systems, electrical and electronic technology and general aspects, e.g. health and safety, legal aspects and organisational requirements.

All the practical skills that you will learn on this course are taught in our fully-equipped workshop which mirrors a professional car dealership service area.

Typically you will need 4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3 or above, including a 3/2 combinations for maths and English
The course will give you what you need to go straight into work or move onto a Level 3 course or the Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship. In order to be successful on this course you will need to acquire Level 1 Automotive Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair skills first. If you do not have Level 1 skills you’ll be fast-tracked to ensure you gain them.
