College welcomes Greek students

Cheshire College – South & West have welcomed more than 120 students from the island of Samos in Greece, as part of an international learning programme and British experiential trip.

Yvette Robinson, International Programmes Manager at Cheshire College – South & West, explained: “We’re delighted to facilitate these trips that help international students with their learning across a wide spectrum of subjects.

“This is our third successive year of hosting students from Greece and it has proved to be invaluable. We’ve already had one group visit earlier this year at our Ellesmere Port and Chester campuses and a second group at our Crewe Campus.”

Both groups have enjoyed placements throughout the College’s commercial and support operations including the library, shop, reception area, estates, theatre and engineering departments.

Their one-week itinerary also gives the students a chance to experience British culture, opportunities to develop their English and ways to improve their presentational skills.

The students were taken on a tour of Chester and Liverpool visiting the cathedrals and Liverpool’s Maritime Museum, as well as travelling to Manchester for some shopping, a trip to the new library and a visit to Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry. However, the highlight for many of the students was visiting Old Trafford, home to Manchester United’s football ground.

Yvette went on to say: “The students that visited our Crewe campus spent time within the international office and Motor Vehicle department. They also spent a day with the Estates team, time with the Theatre Technicians, as well as in the College shop, Elements Spa and also the College’s award-winning Academy Restaurant.

“For students with a higher level of English, they gained work experience at local beauty salons including Bedazzled in Crewe and Nantwich, Carmur Beauty in Crewe and Skin Health Spa, Nantwich.”

The students also got the opportunity to develop their English in order to prepare them for work experience as well as update their CV.
