Cheshire College South & West’s on-site Crewe Campus restaurant have won the coveted title of UK Young Restaurant Team of the Year 2023.

The winning team consisted of Hospitality and Catering students, Olivia James, Amy Phillips and Luke Smith, who created and served a Nordic-themed menu with wines and cocktails to four guests and a panel of industry judges.

The award was presented by Vicky Enderson, chair of judges and director of MSK Ingredients, at a glittering awards dinner.

Cheshire College’s award-winning Academy Restaurants are based at our Crewe and Ellesmere Port Campuses where highly trained Hospitality and Catering students, alongside their teachers, create and serve fine dining dishes using locally sourced produce from Cheshire and on the Wirral.

The prize for this year’s winners is a study tour to Belgium later this year, visiting Michelin Starred restaurants, chocolatiers and a Belgium Brewery.

John Holden, Lecturer in Hospitality and Catering, said: “This competition has been such an amazing journey for the Academy restaurant team. We’re all so proud and honoured to have supported and mentored these three amazing young individuals. It has been an honour and a pleasure to see their talent develop.

“However the credit should go to all the students who have taken part and shown resilience, tenacity, determination and such professionalism from the very beginning. Well done to you all!”

The other finalists who participated in the final were Loughborough College, Sheffield College, North Warwickshire & South Leicester College and Eastleigh College.
