September 10th, 2019

Cheshire College – South & West is delighted to have been selected as one of thirty colleges to receive English Colleges FA Growth Funding to support the formation of a new Girls’ Football Team.

The College’s Ellesmere Port Campus was chosen out of 100 applicants to receive the funding, which will help establish a sustainable football team over the next 3 years, allowing new and existing learners to participate and therefore creating a more inclusive extra-curricular offer.

The money will help provide qualified and licensed coaches, referees and football kits and equipment to help the football team improve their skills and abilities, and give them a positive and enjoyable experience of football whilst studying at the College.

Cheshire College – South & West is extremely passionate about ensuring learners are able to join a sporting community alongside their studies, to keep them active and positively impact their mental wellbeing.

Sports Academy Coordinator, Jason Doggett, commented: “This funding will be used to grow and sustain the girls’ football provision at the College, providing female learners the opportunity to participate in weekly training sessions and competitive fixtures.

“The funding will also be used to purchase football kits and equipment, which will enhance the overall experience leaners receive.”

Assistant Director Public Services, Sport, ESOL and Travel and Tourism, Gareth Edwards, said: “We are thrilled to have been selected to receive the funding.

“We are passionate about supporting our learners’ personal development and are committed to enhancing their College experience. Our dynamic and exciting environment, combined with the funding to support training, will give learners the confidence and skills needed to achieve on and off the pitch.”
