Principal and Chief Executive Officer

Jasbir Dhesi (known as Dhesi) is Principal and Chief Executive of Cheshire College – South & West and has worked in Further Education since graduating from University. His experience has included a variety of senior management positions since 1996, including Assistant Principal, Vice Principal, Principal of Yale College, Wrexham and Principal of South Cheshire College since 2014.

During his time at Yale College he oversaw the considerable strengthening of the College finances, culminating in sector leading results for 3 consecutive years as well as actively delivering on the Welsh Government’s Transformation Agenda. Under his leadership, the College was awarded the ColegauCymru Prize for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and was nominated for Times Educational Supplement (TES) FE Awards for Outstanding Innovation in Teaching, Training or Learning Provision and also Outstanding Finance Team.

Dhesi is passionate about teaching and learning, in particular the use of digital learning technologies which rapidly became part of the culture at South Cheshire College, engaging todays ‘digitally savvy’ generation of learners. He strengthened collaborative relationships with schools and employers, both locally as well as internationally. A key innovative development has been the co-location of employers on campus, ensuring curriculum development and delivery is always relevant to local, regional and national skills requirements.

Under his leadership the College’s financial health improved to outstanding and Ofsted confirmed a GOOD grading for the College. In January 2016, the College became the Academy Sponsor for The Oaks Academy in Crewe, a neighbouring 11-16 school.

Dhesi was appointed Principal and Chief Executive of Cheshire College – South & West, following the completion of a merger on 31st March 2017.

He is a member of the City & Guilds National Quality and Standards Committee, the Pearson FE Advisory Board, Cheshire East Leaders Board, Cheshire East Place Board, Cheshire East Education Partnership Strategy Board and Cheshire East Schools Forum, as well as being a trustee at Shavington Academy, Crewe, Monks Coppenhall Multi Academy Trust, Crewe and a governor at The Oaks Academy, Crewe.
