If you're interested in a career in sports management or coaching, this course is for you. You'll study the development of local authority sports and leisure strategies, investigate the breadth of the sporting industry - from health and fitness to sports coaching, in order to make informed choices regarding future employment opportunities. Units of study also include sport and society, sports nutrition, instructing physical activity and exercise, sports development and sports coaching. The course also involves a proportion of practical work and there are a number of trips organised and visits to national centres.
Five GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above including Maths and English. Level 3 students who do not achieve a grade 4 in English and/or Maths will study a GCSE in the subject(s) as part of their study programme.
Students who are successful have the option of going onto a Foundation Degree in Coaching and Fitness here at South Cheshire College with potential access to year 3 of an MMU degree program or a degree programme in Sport or Leisure elsewhere. Career paths can include employment in fitness centres, local authority leisure centres or any branch of the forces or emergency services.
