This course will help you discover the science behind sport and prepare you for a career in the fitness industry, or for a range of degree courses. The course consists of core modules covering the essentials of sports science, and you'll also study additional modules that will equip you with knowledge in a variety of subjects. The 6 core modules are anatomy for sport and exercise, sport and exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, research methods for sport and exercise sciences, a research project and sports biomechanics in action. In addition to this you'll learn about fitness testing, sports and exercise massage (in our brand new sports massage room), sports nutrition and sports coaching, as well as getting plenty of practical work experience.
Five GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above including Maths and English. Level 3 students who do not achieve a grade 4 in English and/or Maths will study a GCSE in the subject(s) as part of their study programme.
Students who are successful have the option of going on to a Foundation Degree in Coaching and Fitness here at South Cheshire College with potential access to year 3 of an MMU degree programme, or a sports related course at many other universities. If they are fortunate, they can gain employment in hotel/health and fitness centres, fitness clubs, fitness instruction or coaching.
