This higher-level course could open up a whole range of rewarding careers in the Armed Forces, Fire Service, Ambulance Service or Police Force. You’ll learn about major incidents, international perspectives, human behaviour, diversity, criminology and your own personal effectiveness in emergency situations. A strong emphasis is placed on working effectively in a team and you will take part in a variety of outdoor activities such as rock climbing, navigation and orienteering. You’ll also work on your physical fitness by taking part in sports activities to bring you up to the level required by public service organisations. You will benefit from a number of trips such as mountain walking in Snowdonia, visits to the Houses of Parliament and House of Lords and development days with the Army.
Five GCSE’s at Grade 4 (C) or above including Maths and English. Level 3 students who do not achieve a grade 4 in English and/or Maths will study a GCSE in the subject(s) as part of their study programme.
On completion of the course you could go directly into employment in your chosen field or onto further higher-level study. On the first year of the course you will be enrolled on the BTEC 90 Credit Diploma and upon successful completion you may be able to progress to the second year of the BTEC Extended Diploma in Public Services.
