This course is designed to introduce you to a range of traditional wet based photography through to digital applications. Through hands-on practical application you will produce work of a professional standard through the exploration of a range of genres including Documentary, Photo Journalism, Fine Art, Portraiture, Fashion, Landscape, Commercial and Advertising. Through experimentation you will be encouraged to generate imaginative ideas that are developed into final realised outcomes. You will have access to industry standard resources and software which will help prepare you for the profession. There is great emphasis on self-promotion, building a portfolio, exhibiting work and having a web presence.
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photography is a practical work-based qualification. You learn by completing practical projects and assignments that build up your photographic knowledge and skill-base. The course is designed to explore a range of traditional and digital media in genres such as fashion, documentary and forensic photography. Students will experience working with a range of digital imaging hardware and software that will enable them to scan, manage and manipulate their imagery. Learners will also undertake studio and location based photography, learning lighting and exposure control. These workshops are supported by gallery visits, exhibitions, visiting photographers, location shoots and residentials.
Five GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above including Maths and English. Level 3 students who do not achieve a grade 4 in English and/or Maths will study a GCSE in the subject(s) as part of their study programme.
The course is a practical work-based qualification in which you learn by completing practical projects and assignments that help build up your photographic knowledge and skill-base. Subjects include, Darkroom Practice, Digital Application, Camera Techniques Studio Photography, Professional Practice, Forensic Photography and Experimental Imagery. Running alongside the practical subjects, there is a lecture series which introduces you to the history and contemporary practices in photography and art movements which supports and underpins your own work. You will be encouraged to enter regional and national photographic competitions to raise your profile and gain accolade. Study trips and residential feature heavily on the course introducing you to work by historic and contemporary visual artists whilst providing you with opportunities to shoot on location. Previous trips consist of Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Dublin, London and the Lake District. Our assignments always have a work-based scenario or live client attached to them to provide you with the experience needed in industry. Our students are encouraged to create personal work, work of a collaborative manner across multi-disciplines and we support projects that involve the wider community such as the Money For Life Challenge.
