This programme is designed to provide you with the professional skills to plan, deliver, evaluate and improve activities and initiatives aimed at improving people’s fitness and health-related lifestyles. The programme is based on industry required knowledge and skills and will provide education and assessment that allow you to achieve required professional accreditation.
This is a flexible employment related degree that can be studied full time over 2 years at Cheshire College - South & West. The Foundation Degree is awarded by the University of Chester.
Students have the option to complete a further year to top-up to a BA or BSc (Hons) Degree at University. This programme includes CYQ Level 2 Gym Based Instructor and CYQ Level 3 Personal Trainer (small admin fee).

You will ideally be working in the fitness or leisure industry and would like to gain a recognised HE qualification, already have a relevant Level 3 qualification (MMM), A Levels (2) or if you are a mature student, a related qualification. Certain work-placements may require a DBS check.
Applicants are also expected to have a GCSE in Maths and English at Grade A* - C or level 9 – 4.
On completion of the programme you will have the background knowledge and skills to potentially achieve career progression in the fitness, leisure and health sectors. Job roles in advanced fitness instruction, personal training, exercise referral and physical activity promotion are typical of the careers graduates will be in a position to develop. Based on module choices some students will have developed sports-related or management knowledge and skills that will open further career routes.
There may also be the possibility of topping up the Foundation Degree to a full degree (BA or BSc) at the University of Chester.
