The Extended Diploma in Media is a fun but challenging course, ideal if you are seeking a career in media or progression into higher education. The course allows you to explore a wide range of media subjects and to gain theoretical and practical knowledge of the concepts and processes involved in making media products. You'll experience working in radio production, photography, television and video production. You'll also learn and develop a broad range of media skills and understanding of the production processes involved in the various media. Contextual studies, media concepts, marketing, audience research and investigation of the industry support the practical areas of the course. Your assignments will allow you to make realistic media products using the College's outstanding professional TV, radio and recording studios, often working with external clients on live assignment briefs.
Students will experience working in television and video production, audio production, photography and digital design. Students will learn and develop a broad range of media skills and understanding of the production processes involved in the various media. Contextual studies classes; media concepts, marketing, audience research and investigation of the industry, support the practical areas of the course. The course will be structured around assignments which will allow students to make realistic media products within professional level facilities and resources. These assignments will be of increasing complexity over the two years and will draw upon skills and knowledge and will allow development of an individual students talents and abilities.
Five GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above including Maths and English. Level 3 students who do not achieve a grade 4 in English and/or Maths will study a GCSE in the subject(s) as part of their study programme.
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Media is designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment in media industries or allied sectors or for progression onto Foundation Degree or degrees in Media and associated subjects.
