Start your business career or progress on to university with this course, worth three A-Levels. You’ll learn all about all the different functional areas of a business, investigate the different resources available within a business, the role of finance and understanding financial statements, different marketing techniques from market research right through to advertising campaigns, and how to be an effective worker and communicator.
The BTEC Level 3 course in Business consists of four core units plus fourteen specialist units. The qualification is equivalent to three A-Levels.
The four core units are:
Business Environment: This unit introduces the wide range of business activities and ownership and also looks at the different functional areas of business and the external factors affecting organisations.
Investigating Business Resources: This unit explores the role of human, physical and technological resources in organisations. The role of finance and understanding financial statements is also considered in detail.
Introduction to Marketing: This unit introduces students to the concept of marketing and how techniques are used to increase demand for products. How and why market research is conducted by organisations is also studied.
Effective Business Communication: This unit explores the importance of organisations employing suitable staff. Appropriate communication methods and presenting information effectively is also examined.
Within the course, there is also an opportunity to participate in the UK Careers Ready programme, which will give you great opportunities to visit and work with employers, providing you with that first step on the ladder to work.

The course is assessed through course work only - there are no exams on the BTEC Business Level 3 course. In the second year students have the option to select specialised units in the accounting, law and/or HR fields.
Five GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above including Maths and English. Level 3 students who do not achieve a grade 4 in English and/or Maths will study a GCSE in the subject(s) as part of their study programme.
Many of our BTEC Business Level 3 completers continue in education by undertaking Higher Education courses. We have students that choose to continue to at SCC and study on the HNC/D Business programmes - allowing them to gain Level 4/5 qualifications. Students also go on to universities around the country studying degrees in subjects such as; Marketing and Promotion, Law, Accounting and Finance, Business Management and International Business. We also have previous students who have successfully obtained employment or higher apprenticeships, upon completing the course.
